A former Donald Trump presidential campaign staffer was killed after he was shot 13 times while he slept in his home in Florida.

Nick Corvino, 30, a Republican who worked on a series of GOP campaigns, was murdered by his roommate this week in their apartment near Kissimmee, located 30 miles north of Orlando, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office revealed.

Deputies discovered Corvino dead in his bed. He was shot in the head, back, and legs.

His roommate, 45-year-old Scott Waddell, had blood on his hands and feet but didn’t say why he killed his roommate. Waddell told deputies he is mentally ill and took several medications, adding that he did not remember anything.

His roommate, Scott Waddell, 45, had blood covering his hands and feet but didn’t say why he shot his roommate,

Waddell said he got up and saw “Nicholas covered in blood with a gun next to him,” deputies indicated in a report obtained by the Orlando Sentinel.

Corvino’s killed sent shockwaves in Florida’s Republican Party. “I couldn’t believe it,” fellow Trump campaign employee Randy Ross told Newsweek. “He was too young.”

The former Donald Trump presidential campaign staffer previously worked on the campaigns for Florida Senator Marco Rubio, State Attorney General Pam Bondi, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater along with a few local elections.

“Nick Corvino was a great man who had his entire life ahead of him,” Bondi said to the newspaper. “He was charismatic and kind.”

Waddell was taken into custody on first-degree murder charges.

Deputies indicated cameras inside the residence recorded some of the events leading up to the incident. Waddell told police he’d been having thoughts about murdering men but had never acted on them.

Waddell said he and the victim had been “best friends for ten years.”
