Tennessee Police seize 44 pounds of cocaine during traffic stop

Tennessee authorities seized forty-four pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $400,000, from the back of a pickup driving on a highway in Fayette County.

Officials said the vehicle was pulled over for speeding, WREG reported.

The three individuals inside, Tellerick Simon, 33, Melvin Bullock, 29, and Kayla Palmer, 32, told the West Tennessee Drug Task Force officer who pulled them over that they were driving from Houston to Cleveland, Tennessee.

The three are in custody in the Fayette County Jail each on $2 million bond.

“We’re a pass-through area,” Tim Helldorfer, the Director of the West Tennessee Crime and Drug Task Force, stated.

The Task Force comprised of specially trained officers from agents across the Mid-South who collaborate and can cross judicial lines.

The police official said officers frequently make a drug bust during traffic stops.

“Within a few moments because of the training these agents have they know if there’s something that needs to be followed up on,” Helldorfer added.

He also indicated that stops made while Monitoring I-40, often lead to more than drugs.

“We have gotten pedophiles. We’ve gotten two murder suspects. One in Durham, North Carolina where police were still on the scene of a fresh homicide,” he said.
