Fake DEA agent held prostitute captive

A man from Florida is behind bars after authorities in Luzerne County revealed that he pretended to be a fake DEA agent and held a prostitute hostage.

Martin P. Smith, 42, of St. Petersburg, faces charges including unlawful restraint, impersonating a public servant, patronizing prostitutes, along with possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

WNEP reported that authorities were called to a motel room in Sugarloaf Township on Saturday. Police said that Smith, who had a bogus badge, pellet gun, and drugs, claimed he was a DEA agent and handcuffed the prostitute, holding her against her will.

She managed to convince the fake DEA agent to free her, saying she was going to her vehicle to get drugs, and that’s when she contacted 911, according to reports.

Smith was booked into the Luzerne County jail.
