Two suspects face federal charges after a large stash of cocaine was found in their suitcase at Detroit Metro Airport.

Authorities said a K9 unit with the DEA signaled to the presence of drugs in suitcases belonging to two people identified as Maurice Deshunte Boraders and his companion, Macy Kissy Hood.

Federal court records revealed that Boraders and Hood took a red-eye flight from Los Angeles and arrived at Metro Airport at 6:30 a.m. Friday. In their baggage, authorities discovered several brick-shaped objects that appeared to be kilo-sized bundles of cocaine.

In sum, the two suspects attempted to smuggle 10 kilos or just more than 22 pounds of the illicit drug, CBS Local reported.

Law enforcement officials said both suspects have extensive past criminal records, including a 2003 drug conviction for Hood. At the time of his arrest, Boraders was on probation for an armed robbery stemming from 2002. Documents show he also served time behind bars for a weapons offense in 2008.

Boraders made an initial court appearance before Magistrate Judge Elizabeth A. Stafford in Detroit, last Friday and was charged with conspiring to possess and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. He is scheduled to appear back in court for a preliminary examination on November 3rd.
