Video captured the moment armed Gulf Cartel hitmen in the border city of Reynosa, Mexico opened fire at passing vehicles as part a strategy to carjack cars.

The footage shows the vehicles carjacked at gunpoint, which were utilized for makeshift narco-blockades during recent street confrontations.

For several weeks, Reynosa experienced daily firefights as rival groups of the Gulf Cartel continue to fight for territorial control. Stolen vehicles are used to cause traffic jams to slow down authorities and the military.

Footage that was apparently recorded by a cartel gunman spread on social media shows the moment when the armed sicario or hitman fired at a tractor-trailer.

The recording was shot along the Reynosa-Monterrey highway, an area that sees a continuous flow of tractor trailers carrying commerce and vehicles traveling to Texas.

For several months, the highway has experienced dozens of burglaries and car-jackings by cartel members.

A top official with the International Red Cross compared the ongoing violence in Reynosa to hot war zones during a recent visit to Mexico.

Peter Mauer, President of the humanitarian organization told Mexico’s El Universal that the violence perpetrated by violent drug-related crime and war — has the same consequences.

“Our concern in Mexico, our basic proposal to the Mexican government is that derived from our experience in a war zone and that some of the impacts are the same, some of the answers that we have proposed could be interesting to the Mexican government for consideration,” Maurer said.
