NYPD officials said that around 10:50 p.m., Nunez’s friend, 31-year-old Alex Siraj, handed over the weed, and the would-be clients pulled out firearms, threw the two to the ground, and whipped them with their pistols.

According to the New York Post, the suspects took their victims’ phones and Nunez’s gun, but he had some backup. A third man who came out from a vehicle and began shooting and took cover as Siraj ran to hide behind a doorway, with Nunez behind him.

The shocked third man didn’t realize who was running where and opened fire, striking Nunez in the head.

Emergency personnel race Nunez to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries hours later. Siraj was in stable condition at the same hospital.

On Monday authorities released a picture and video of the shooter, who is believed to be Hispanic, between 25 and 33 years old, 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds.
