A record quantity of illegal drugs and guns have been seized in Moses Lake, Washington just in the past month.

Over 90 pounds of meth, heroin, and marijuana were recovered, worth an estimated street value of $1.2 million.

In terms of disposing of the drugs, they can’t just be thrown away. The drugs need to be safely handled and destroyed, which is easier said than done.

First, the evidence needs safe handling in a secure lock-up – that’s in the now-overcrowded evidence room.

Afterward, the drugs are brought to Spokane’s waste to energy plant, which is the largest incinerator on the Pacific Northwest. The plant specializes in destroying drugs and guns.

In 2015 alone, that incinerator destroyed 123,000 pounds of drugs, pharmaceuticals, and firearms, according to NBC.
