Three players on the UCLA Bruins basketball team including LiAngelo Ball were detained for shoplifting in China, according to ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman.

According to SBNation, LiAngelo Ball, the brother of L.A. Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball, is allegedly among the players facing legal issues abroad. Goodman reported that Chinese officials also arrested Cody Riley and Jalen Hill, both of whom are freshman forwards.

The purported theft took place at a Louis Vuitton store near the hotel where the team was staying. An attorney familiar with Chinese law spoke with Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports and indicated that the players would face 3-10 years if they are found guilty.

The arrests occurred before the Bruins open their season against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Friday in Shanghai.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Chinese authorities also questioned three players from the Yellow Jackets before letting them go. Police also searched the UCLA team bus and required the Bruins players to go back to the hotel.

LiAngelo’s father, LaVar, was urged not to speak out on the incident despite previously scheduling a news conference.
