A suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel was arrested in Utah on Monday after he reportedly tried to sell a detective 10 pounds of meth.

Alejandro Baca-Cardona, 24 was taken into custody on suspicion of distributing, offering or arranging the distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Baca-Cardona has been placed on an ICE hold.

Investigators had been working on a case where an individual had agreed to sell and transport meth in Utah to create a narcotics organization in Utah County, a police report revealed. Baca-Cardona contacted an officer and indicated that he was ready to meet for the exchange.

Authorities agreed to meet the man at a Walmart in Spanish Fork. Baca-Cardona had 10 pounds of meth stuffed in luggage in his car, which he was selling for $60,000, The Daily Herald reports.

Officials believe Baca-Cardona smuggled the meth into the U.S. from Mexico and that he works for a major Mexican cartel.
