Authorities make first known seizure of super-potent carfentanil in Pennsylvania county, arrest 6 in alleged drug ring

Pennsylvania authorities charged six purported drug dealers in a case that led to Allegheny County’s first known seizure of carfentanil, a lethal synthetic opioid that’s often employed as an elephant tranquilizer and is approximately 10,000 times more powerful than morphine.

A grand jury returned an indictment that named Deondray Beasley, 29, as the “boss” of a drug enterprise that distributed carfentanil, fentanyl and heroin in Pittsburgh, Munhall, Braddock Heights, Braddock and North Braddock.

Detectives with the AG’s office purchased drugs from Beasley and his co-conspirators, Derek Williams, 22, and Dorrean Watson, 30, a statement from Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s office revealed.

Drugs were also purchased from James Wells, 29, Patrick Sanders, 27, and Rand Wolford, 29, WTAE reported.

Beasley, Sanders, Williams, and Watson have been taken into custody on felony charges, which include criminal conspiracy and possessing with the intent to deliver.

Wells and Wolford remained on the lam as of Thursday.
