Coast Guard Offloads Cocaine And Heroin Worth $300 Million At Port Everglades

The U.S. Coast Guard seized close to 10 tons of cocaine and 23 kilos of heroin on Tuesday. The drugs were the offloaded in Florida.

The seizures took place across 14 separate smuggling busts in international waters off the Mexican and Central American coasts, CBS Miami reports.

“This offload is not just the result of one unit, but the efforts of multiple Coast Guard cutters, aircraft, and support, as well as our partners and allied men and women who continue to work to stop these organizations from profiting off transnational crime and smuggling,” Commander John McTamney said.

The drugs were worth approximately $300 million, according to Coast Guard officials.

“While this represents approximately 10 tons of drugs that will never hit our streets, it also represents a depletion to the cash flow to these organizations,” he added.
