A 9-year-old child was utilized by an inmate to smuggle drugs into a Vermont state prison back in September.

The 9-year-old girl was taught how to smuggle the plastic-wrapped drugs to inmate Chad Paquette, 38, while she visited him at Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport City, WNCN reported.

Vermont State Prison officials revealed that another inmate Jason Watson, 28, organized the drug deal with Sarah Watson through phone conversations. The 34-year-old woman then taught the little girl how to carry out the deed.

During the visit, the girl had Paquette something under the table, the man took it and then put it in his mouth, according to Detective Sgt. Darren Annis. It is not clear how the adults were related.

The affidavit added that the girl gave him a baggie that had strips of the opioid Buprenorphine.

Sarah Watson pleaded guilty to charges which include drug possession. Paquette pleaded guilty to drug possession, and Jason Watson pleaded guilty to conspiracy.
