The abduction of a man, who was cleaning a sidewalk in the strife-ridden Mexican state of Michoacan, by cartel gunmen exhibits the level of impunity criminal groups enjoys in the area.

While officials attempt to paint an image of safety, cartels continue to kidnap innocent victims and carry out battles for control of the drug trade, resulting in dozens of murders per week.

Security footage from Apatzingan, Michoacan, shows the moment a crew of cartel gunmen kidnapped a man who was heading a street cleaning crew.

The man was cleaning the sidewalk as two of his employees swept nearby, Breitbart Texas reported.

The cartel gunmen, who were riding in a black vehicle, drove up to the victim, jumped out with their guns drawn and forced the man into the SUV before fleeing the scene.

The entire kidnapping took fewer than 20 seconds.

The abduction is one of the many crimes that continue to transpire in Michoacan, one of Mexico’s most violent states.

Despite a record-breaking number of homicides, Governor Silvano Aureoles Conejo continues to downplay the conditions of the state.

The Nueva Familia Michoacana and Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion or Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) are fighting for control of the state’s drug cultivation areas and transport routes.

The two drug cartels were responsible dozens of grizzly murders and dismemberments to gain control of the port city of Lazaro Cardenas and profitable drug production territories.
