Illinois doctor, 66, pleads guilty to prescribing opioids and other drugs for cash, sex

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago says a doctor in northern Illinois entered a guilty plea on Monday to charges he illegally provided patients with opioids and other medication to patients in exchange for cash and sex.

According to a Justice Department press release, Constantino Perales of Peru, Illinois, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with the intent to distribute in Chicago Federal Court.

Federal prosecutors say the 66-year-old LaSalle County physician admitted that between 2011 and 2013, he prescribed opioids and other drugs to three patients in exchange for cash and sex with the full knowledge the patients were addicts.

Additionally, Perales confessed to dispensing drugs in 2013 to an Illinois man with the knowledge that the intended to illegally sell the pills.

As a result of his guilty plea, Perales faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on March 22.
