Over 150 drug and alcohol-related arrests were made this past weekend in North Carolina.

During an operation that took place between Friday and Saturday morning, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement agents took over 150 people into custody on illegal alcohol and drugs charges, WRAL reported.

With the assistance of every ALE agent along with sheriffs, police chiefs and other law enforcement officers, 158 people were arrested in total, which resulted in 297 charges which included 101 alcohol-related charges, 97 drug-related charges, and 28 felonies.

The busts took place in Greensboro, Burlington, Winston-Salem, Salisbury, Charlotte, and Asheboro.

During the operation, one agent administered CPR on an unresponsive overdose victim until emergency personnel arrived. Another agent recognized a man who was accused of a previous robbery and had 17 arrest warrants that were outstanding.

Twelve firearms were seized across the state. Drugs including marijuana, crack, ecstasy and heroin were also seized, along with non-tax-paid spirituous liquor and one car.

ALE special agents will hand in violation reports to the N.C. Alcoholic Beverage Commission regarding regulatory and law violations they noticed at the 21 ABC locations. The ABC stores could face penalties, suspensions or revocations of ABC permits.

“This is the first of many operations ALE is planning to deter violence at nightclubs, bars, and restaurants,” ALE branch head Terrance Merriweather said. “The number of shootings that have occurred at these locations is prompting ALE’s enforcement activity.”
