Harrowing video captured the moment cartel gunmen went to a restaurant to kill a local police chief in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

The execution appears to be an escalation of the violence raging between the Juarez and the Sinaloa Cartels for control of the region.

Surveillance footage leaked on social media earlier this week showed the killing of Edgar Perez de Peña, Cuauhtemoc’s police chief, as he was dining at a local restaurant, Breitbart Texas reported.

The video shows the moment when two cartel gunmen walk into the Mariscada restaurant and sit at a table behind the police chief in uniform.

Within a minute, the gunmen attack Perez without hurting his wife at the table before they fled.

The violence between the two cartels has expanded to include attacks on local and state officers.

In the border city of Ciudad Juarez, 11 police officials were executed in connection with the ongoing violence.
