Police: Deaths of former ASU football player Brock Haman and female friend maybe drug related

A former Arizona State University football player and a woman were discovered dead inside a luxury apartment on Friday.

Authorities found the bodies of 25-year-old Veronica Birk and 24-year-old Brock Haman in Scottsdale inside the Cibola Apartment Complex.

On Saturday, Sergeant Ben Hoster told NBC12 that Birk and Haman were acquaintances.

Police said the bodies were discovered after officers carried out a welfare check that was requested.

Birk’s mother requested the check after she hadn’t spoken to her daughter in a week.

Birk and Haman appeared to have been dead for a period of time before they were found.

Investigators discovered evidence at the scene that shows that drug use was related to the deaths.

A medical examiner will ascertain the exact cause of death for the victims.

The uncle of Brock Haman posted a tribute to his nephew on Saturday.

“Today is one of the saddest days of my life. I found out my nephew Brock Haman passed away,” his uncle, Devin Haman, said.

“He was a nice and amazing boy with so much life left. I love you Brock and will miss you so much. You will always be in my prayers. May God bless you,” his uncle continued.
