New York City Police are investigating rape allegations made by three women against music impresario Russell Simmons.

On Thursday, NYPD Deputy Chief Timothy Trainor said detectives are reviewing the accusations and contacting the alleged victims, including a screenwriter for HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam.”

The investigation comes on the heels of a New York Times story published Wednesday in which the three victims detailed the sexual assault allegations that occurred in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Earlier in the day, Russell Simmons denied wrongdoing and vowed to “properly defend himself” on Instagram with the hashtag #NotMe.

“I will prove without any doubt that I am innocent of all rape charges, my intention is not to diminish the #MeToo movement in any way, but instead hold my accusers accountable. …It’s just a statement about my innocence,” Simmons wrote.

HBO released a statement last month saying it would edit out any association to Russell Simmons in its “All Def Comedy.”
