FBI agent and Yonkers Police detective kill suspected bank robber

An FBI agent and a police officer in Yonkers, New York shot and killed a suspected bank robber on Friday night.

The officers were “conducting law enforcement activity” when the shooting took place.

The gunfire erupted near Van Cortlandt Park at approximately 4 p.m.

Officials said a joint task force involving FBI agents and Yonkers Police detectives were conducting an operation on a suspect bank robbery suspect believed to be armed and dangerous.

When authorities went to arrest the man, he attempted to ram the officers

The man was raced to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, the feds indicated in a tweet.

Yonkers Police wrote on Twitter that it wanted to “assure … residents that there is no threat.”

The FBI announced that no further information would be released.

Witnesses told ABC7 they heard several loud bangs.

“I knew that something happened, I didn’t really know what was going on,” a witness said.
