Attorney claims California woman had no clue she had 463 pounds of weed in her trailer

Bond has been set at $500,000 for California woman who was busted in Nebraska with hundreds of pounds of suspected marijuana.

According to the woman’s defense lawyer, she was unaware that she was hauling the drugs.

Ebony Douglas, 31, was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon, WOWT reported.

She was driving a Chevy that was towing a U-Haul trailer when Douglas County deputies stopped her for a traffic violation.

Police uncovered 462 pounds of suspected pot and hundreds of vials of suspected hash oil.

A K-9 signaled the presence of drugs in the car, and a subsequent search revealed 462 pounds of suspected pot and hundreds of vials of hash oil.

The woman is accused of Delivery and Distribution of Marijuana; Delivery and Distribution of THC, and Failing to Affix a Tax Stamp.

Her lawyer, James Martin Davis, said prosecutors have it all wrong.

Davis claims Douglas was driving to Michigan to visit her aunt who was undergoing bypass surgery and was asked by a friend to bring the trailer to Chicago for $500.

Davis added, “It appears that somebody took advantage of her. Little did she know that there was 400 pounds of marijuana.”

Douglas could face over 20 years behind bars if she is found guilty.

A preliminary hearing is set for January 24th.
