Two suspects charged with shocking quadruple homicide in upstate New York

Authorities arrested two men on murder charges in the gruesome deaths of two women and two children at an apartment in upstate New York.

According to the Times Union, Justin Mann and James White pleaded not guilty on Saturday to one count of first-degree murder and four counts of second-degree murder in connection with the quadruple homicide.

The bodies of 36-year-old Shanta Myers; her children, 11-year-old Jeremiah Myers and 5-year-old Shanise Myers; and 22-year-old Brandi Mells were discovered on Tuesday by a property manager in a basement apartment in Troy located along the Hudson River, just north of the state capital of Albany.

Officials said the two women were in a relationship.

Police said the victims were found bound with their throats slashed.

Troy Police Chief John Tedesco said during a press conference on Saturday that both men were apprehended without incident in Schenectady.

Tedesco added that a suspect knew one of the victims but declined to further elaborate on a possible motive behind the slayings.

The police chief expressed confidence that there wouldn’t be any more arrests, according to CBS6’s Steve Magueri

Officials said Shanta Myers’ 15-year-old son Isaiah Smith, who was not home at the time of the murders, was the sole survivor.

Both Mann and White remain in custody without bail and are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on January 4th.
