The witness, who fled the scene to get help, said he came back to the scene to discover McKinney dead and Ramirez with a gunshot injury to her shoulder.

Gloria Chaplin, who lives in a home near the crime scene, said he went running to her door just before his death.

“Josh came beating on the door saying someone was after him,” Chaplin said. “Then he ran back out, and it all happened between 4 and by 4:30 the police were here. It all happened so quick.”

Chaplin said the victim would play video games with her grandchild.

Ramirez told authorities at the hospital that she grabbed her boyfriend’s gun in self-defense after he dropped it, but investigators said that her story did not add up because they found evidence that she took his wallet after murdering him.

Ramirez remains in custody on $50,000 bond in the Harris County Jail’s medical unit while she recuperates from her gunshot wound.
