Suspect accused of brutal killing of Seattle nurse Ingrid Lyne sentenced to 28 years in prison

A man accused of dismembering a mother whom he formerly dated before he stuffed her body parts in garbage bags, was sentenced to close to 28 years behind bars.

On Friday, John Charlton, 39, was sentenced in King County Supreme Court for the murder of Ingrid Lyne, 40, a nurse and mother of three.

Charlton pleaded guilty in October to killing Lyne and stealing her vehicle.

“He deserves more,” Phil Lyne, Lyne’s ex-husband, said during sentencing.

Charlton was pleaded guilty in October in the killing of Lyne, a mother of three

“You’ve taken our daughters’ compassionate, caring mother who I respected. You have taken someone who was not yours to take,” he said to Charlton in court.

Judge Julie Spector said she would’ve sentenced the man to life if the state’s guidelines weren’t in place. Charleston’s 27 years and nine months sentence was the maximum sentence in the state.

Charlton told authorities that he met Lyne on a dating website and dated for approximately a month.

He told investigators they went to a baseball game in April 2016, the night before her family reported her missing.

Charlton had dated Lyne for six to eight weeks before he committing the slaying

The pair went to a bar and then went back to her house, but claimed that he ended up sleeping on a sidewalk and was too intoxicated to remember anything from that night

A homeowner contacted officers after discovering three plastic bags he believed were stuffed with human body parts, which the medical examiner confirmed were Lyne’s.

Detectives recovered a 15-inch pruning saw near her bathtub and her blood and flesh in the drain pipes.

“There are no words that can alleviate the pain that I caused, I am sorry,” Charlton said at before he was sentenced.
