American Kevin Dahlgren serving life sentence commits suicide in Czech prison

Kevin Dahlgren, the American citizen who was convicted of murdering four of his family members in the Czech Republic has committed suicide in prison.

Authorities said Kevin Dahlgren killed himself in the Valdice prison n Thursday, located northeast of Prague, where he was serving life behind bars.

Czech Prison service spokeswoman Petra Kucerova confirmed the death of the U.S. citizen but provided no further details, citing “an ongoing investigation into the incident.

“I can confirm that we had a death by suicide in one of our prisons,” Kucerova told the AFP News Agency.

In 2016, a Czech court found Kevin Dahlgren guilty of murdering his relatives including a father, mother and their two children in their home during his visit to the Czech city of Brno in May 2013.

Investigators in the Czech Republic said the U.S. citizen then attempted to burn the bodies of his victims inside the house before fleeing the country.

Dahlgren, who is from Palo Alto, California, was arrested at Washington Dulles International Airport after the slayings and was extradited back to the Czech Republic in 2015 to stand trial for the murders.

He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison for the quadruple murder. An appellate court upheld the life sentence in 2017.
