Authorities in Mexico for the first time uncovered evidence of a purported alliance between the Gulf Cartel and Jalisco New Generation Cartel or CJNG during an operation to capture a top drug trafficker operating in the state of Oaxaca.

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in coordination with military elements executed search warrants during an operation in the municipalities of Oaxaca de Juárez and San Francisco Lachigol, resulting in the apprehension of David Ríos Suárez known as “El Junior,” the presumed regional boss of the Gulf Cartel operating in Oaxaca’s Central Valleys Region.

According to an arrest warrant, Ríos Suarez is wanted for several organized crime-related offenses including homicide and extortion.

Federal authorities identify Ríos Suárez as the Gulf Cartel’s operational leader responsible for overseeing the cultivation, distribution, and transport of narcotics, along with trafficking of firearms, and fuel theft in the state.

David Rios Suarez, Junior is the Gulf Cartel’s  leader in the Central Valley region of Oaxaca.

Mexican forces also confiscated three kilograms methamphetamine; hundreds of pounds of marijuana; two weighing scales, and a cash counting machine during the operation.

In a surprising development, authorities were shocked when they arrested Carlos Armando Martínez Díaz alias “El Magula” at the scene.

Martínez Diaz is identified as a top operative for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel led by Mexican drug lord Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho.”

La Jornada cited sources within the Attorney General’s Office, who said the arrest of the two top drug traffickers is the first confirmation of a relationship between the Gulf cartel and CJNG.

Both high-ranking cartel operatives were transported to SEIDO headquarters, which is the PGR’s organized crime division, in Mexico City.
