Memphis teen shot in the head after playing “No Lackin Challenge”

WBRC FOX6 News – Birmingham, AL

Tennessee authorities say a dangerous social media craze gaining popularity known as the “No Lackin Challenge” led to the accidental shooting of a teen on Thursday.

Memphis Police officials said a 17-year-old teen was accidentally shot after allegedly playing the “No Lackin Challenge” in which participants post videos of themselves on Youtube pulling guns on each other but are not supposed to pull the trigger.

WBRC-TV reported that the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his head after his friend, identified 21-year-old Sherman Lackland, accidentally fired his .40-caliber handgun.

Police officials said the pair were sitting with friends in a booth at E’s Cafe in Memphis when the shooting occurred.

“[There was] a real loud bang, then I see the guy across from [Lackland] fall in the floor,” witness Thomas Fitzpatrick told the news station.

Paramedics rushed the victim to a local area hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Cops arrested Lackland on charges of aggravated assault, illegal possession of a firearm, and reckless endangerment.
