Authorities in New Mexico are attempting to determine how over 40 pounds of marijuana ended up being abandoned at an elementary school in Albuquerque.

Investigators said the marijuana was discovered on Thursday in several garbage bags at Manzano Mesa Elementary School. A school custodian made the discovery, which prompted the principal to contact the police.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, this was the second instance of weed being recovered at or near an elementary school this week.

A police report revealed that there wasn’t evidence in the bags that could be used to trace the drugs to the person who left it there. Furthermore, the school’s security camera did not capture anything.

“They just happened to dump them on school property,” said Monica Armenta, a spokeswoman for the Albuquerque Public Schools,  “It’s all very, very strange.”

School officials indicated that students did not come in contact with the bags nor its contents.
