Dramatic footage of a child being abducted off a street last month in a Chicago suburb was published on Friday by the FBI as charges were filed against a man from Indiana.

The FBI’s Chicago field office revealed that the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. December 20th in Calumet City, which is located roughly 30 miles south of Chicago. Authorities did not disclose the girl’s age.

In the footage, a man identified as Bryan Protho is seen standing near an SUV in an alley as a young girl, who is blurred in the video, walks by him.

Protho then grabbed the girl and put her in the vehicle before he drove away.

On Friday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a press release that Protho then parked the car in an alley and attacked the child.

The young girl managed to escape and flagged down a passing car. Prosecutors said the driver who stopped then called the police.

The FBI added that the time stamp on the footage released Friday displayed the wrong date, but did indeed record the December kidnapping.

The 38-year-old was apprehended on December 27th and was charged on Friday with kidnapping, He is currently in federal custody and will appear for his arraignment on February 20th. He faces a maximum sentence of life behind bars.

The FBI’s Chicago bureau indicated that they released the video as part of an ongoing probe to see if the car may be linked to any other offenses.
