Violence targeting businesses in the Mexican resort city Cancun continues to escalate resulting in at least 30 cartel-linked murders in January.

In the most recent killing, a group of gunmen walking into Oasis Bar, executing three customers and wounding five others.

The gunmen managed to flee undetected. Two of the victims died at the scene while the third passed while being rushed to a hospital. The bar is located in the tourist area of El Crucero.

The attack at the bar is not an isolated case. Earlier this month, a team of gunmen went into a bar called “La Palapa de Chucky” and murdered two men and injured seven other victims, Breitbart Texas reported.

One of the victims was identified as a local drug dealer.

In recent months, violence in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, which are considered to the “jewels of tourism in Mexico,” have become the scenes of unprecedented cartel-related killings never before.

In December, a group of gunmen left the remains of a beheaded victim next to a poster board warning of more violence.

Recently, the U.S. Department of State released its most recent travel advisory which outlines the dramatic increase in violence in many areas in Mexico and shows some areas to be as dangerous as Syria and other Middle Eastern conflict zones.
