Riveting footage shows the moment a corrections officer at the Rikers Island Detention Center in New York City suffered a broken neck following a brutal attack by gang members on Saturday.

The 30-second video shows the 39-year-old unidentified officer assaulted by five Bloods gang members, while a second guard does nothing.

The attack occurred before 6 p.m. in the George Motchan Detention Center.

According to jail records obtained by The New York Post, one of the gang members identified as Steven Espinal, reportedly sucker-punched the officer, knocking him unconscious and breaking his neck in the process.

The other four other inmates, identified as Samson Walston, Eric Morris, Nazeem Francis and Devin Burns joined the attack, kicking and punching the officer while he remained on the ground, while the second guard stood just feet away, but never intervenes.

Emergency responders rushed the officer to a hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Rikers Island Jail officials haven’t disclosed the officer’s name or the hospital where he is being treated.

Authorities said the suspects are known members of the Bloods.

Michael Skelly, a spokesman for the Correction Officers Benevolent Association, said the jailhouse assault, which was recorded by security cameras, was one of the worst prison attacks in years.
