On Wednesday, agents with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations working at the El Paso port of entry confiscated 14.4 pounds of cocaine. The seizure was one of three busts carried out by CBP officers Valentine’s Day. They also recovered 185 pounds of marijuana in two additional busts.

“CBP officers are hard at work stopping illegal and prohibited items from entering our nation,” Beverly Good, CBP El Paso Port Director, stated.

According to a CBP press release, the cocaine seizure took place before noon at the Paso Del Norte crossing when a 2011 Chevrolet with a female driver entered the facility from Mexico. CBP officers picked the vehicle for a secondary inspection.

A drug-sniffing K-9 signaled to the rear area of the vehicle. CBP agents continued their inspection and discovered a hidden compartment in the driver’s side right wheel area of the car. The compartment contained seven packages packed with cocaine.

CBP officers arrested the driver, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen. She was transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI special agents to face charges connected to the failed smuggling attempt.
