The recent killing of a top local leader of one of the most violent drug cartels in Mexico elicited a rush of security concerns likely to generate additional bloodshed despite the security efforts carried out by the government of the strife-ridden state of Michoacan.

Breitbart Texas reported that Jose Tadeo “El Arabe” Magaña Mendoza, 22, was recently murdered, initially, it was alleged to by his own gunmen; however new information revealed that his rivals might have gotten to him. His body was found buried in a clandestine grave.

The capo was reportedly the regional head for Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), which has been at war with La Nueva Familia Michoacana and their armed faction, Los Viagras. Magaña Mendoza took over the leadership of the CJNG in Michoacan in 2017 after Gilberto “Chanda” Gomez Romero was apprehended.

The deceased capo was the alleged regional boss for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), which has been at war with La Nueva Familia Michoacana and their armed wing, Los Viagras.

El Arabe’s parents Jose Magana and Guadalupe Mendoza went to a morgue in Michoacan where they identified the body of their son. The pair stated that they had not heard from their son since 2014 when he turned 18 and was busted for drug trafficking.

Intelligence information revealed that Magaña implemented witchcraft practices for protection. He was also on social media posting pictures with weapons and other luxury items.

Initially, police information hypothesized that Magaña was being beaten to death by his own crew after a dispute at a cockfight. Forensic information has since shown that the capo was also shot in the back of the head, leading to the assumption that his rivals were responsible.
