Authorities in Chicago say a man armed with a loaded handgun, donning a bulletproof vest and carrying a bag of stolen NYPD SWAT gear, was arrested at one of the Windy City’s busiest train stations.

Law enforcement officials said the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Isaiah Malailua of Redding, California, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon for wearing body armor.

Chicago Police officers arrested Malailua Friday morning at a ticket courier at Chicago’s Union Station.

Prosecutors said Malailva was traveling through Chicago wearing body armor and carrying a loaded .9 mm handgun he didn’t legally own.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the arrest was made after K-9 units detected explosive residue in an unattended bag belonging to Malailua.

A subsequent search of the bag uncovered materials with stolen NYPD SWAT gear and a bus ticket.

Malailua had bail at $100,000 and was ordered to remain in the Chicago area by Cook County Judge John Fitzgerald Lyke.

“This is troubling, to say the least, in light of what’s happening in our country,” Lyke said following a court hearing.
