Border Patrol agents in Tucson, Arizona arrested a previously convicted child sex offender as he allegedly tried to illegally re-enter the United States.

According to a U.S, Customs and Border Protection Agency press release, officers arrested the child sex offender identified as 31-year-old Mexican national Moises Bautista-Ortiz Tuesday evening 75 miles west of Nogales, near the isolated border crossing ofSasabe..

A background check revealed Ortiz had been sentenced to life probation after a conviction for child molestation in Maricopa County Superior Court in January 2013.

Border Patrol officials conduct routine record checks on all suspects arrested to identify all individuals with prior criminal histories.
