Federal and state law enforcement officials say a massive operation resulted in the arrests of 31 documented gang members around Mississippi’s capital city of Jackson.

On Monday, U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and U.S. Marshal George White announced the arrests, which was the culmination of a joint operation involving federal law enforcement agencies and several police departments in the metro Jackson area last week.

Officials said among the documented gang members arrested included those belonging to the Latin Kings, Vice Lords, Gangster Disciples, Aryan Brotherhood, and Simon City Royals.

Authorities have not released the names of the dozens arrested in the sweep.

In addition, officers secured the seizure of several firearms along with illegal drugs including marijuana and crystal methamphetamine during the sweep, the Clarion-Ledger reports.

“I want it to be clear that our intention is to break the backs of these gangs. Our intention is to make Mississippi an anti-gang state, so that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing,” Hurst said.
