Federal authorities arrested a man accused of purchasing over $112,000 in fake erectile dysfunction pills from India and marketing the counterfeit viagra on social media groups in Texas.

The case was launched last year when Homeland Security agents and the U.S Postal Service launched a probe into the illegal importation of counterfeit pills from India into Brownsville, Texas.

Rene Soriano reportedly sold thousands of erectile dysfunction pills on Facebook groups such as La Pulga Online and others where he would sell “generic Viagra and Cialis” and provide a number to text him. According to HSI, Soriano would buy the pills from Chinmay Overseas in India. The company was the target of multiple seizures for counterfeit medicines last year.

Authorities found the addresses where Soriano would receive the pills and also followed up on the social media profiles that he would use to distribute them. An undercover agent reached out to Soriano asking for pills, and Soriano told him that he would give a lower price if he purchased in bulk.

The agent purchased the pills and had them shipped. Soriano also reportedly claimed that he would sell pills in Mexico as well, according to Breitbart Texas.

Following his arrest, Soriano appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ignacio Torteya, who showed him the charges against him and ordered that he remain in custody without bond.

Soriano has requested a court-appointed lawyer.
