A group of elite officers from a unit formulated to battle cartels head-on was arrested for reportedly trying to transport a drug load into the Mexican border city of Piedras Negras.

The arrest occurred near the city of Allende, Coahuila when two police officers from Fuerza Coahuila riding in a black patrol vehicle were pulled over at a military checkpoint on the highway that leads to Piedras Negras, according to Breitbart Texas.

The officers initially declined to undergo a search, forcing the military to request assistant from Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and other law enforcement offices.

The soldiers discovered several packages of marijuana and an undisclosed amount of money.

While details of the arrest were not released, the officers alleged that it was a seizure they were going to turn in. However, the military arrested the two officers and under heavy guard and brought them to the PGR offices in Piedras Negras.

Soon after, Coahuila Public Safety Secretary made various statements to local press outlets stating that the FC officers were responding to a 911 call about a piece of luggage on the side of the road.

Inside, the officers located the drugs and brought them to the PGR under escort by the military.

The PGR, which is responsible for federal prosecutions, has not revealed any official information about the incident.
