A judge has sentenced a Texas man to life in prison for the brutal 2015 rape and murder of a teen he kidnapped from a Dallas Walmart

Jurors convicted 36-year-old Antonio Cochran Saturday of murder for the killing of 18-year-old Zoe Hastings while she was returning a Redbox movie in Lake Highlands, the New York Post reported.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office said Cochran was handed a life prison term Monday.

Hastings stopped at the pharmacy to return a movie when Cochran forced her into her minivan and abducted her.

Prosecutors said Cochran allegedly sexually assaulted the young woman before stabbing her to death.

Authorities discovered the body of Hastings with her throat slashed the following day near a local creek bed.

DNA testing on the murder weapon – a bloody knife recovered at the scene – implicated Cochran to the slaying.

“There are no words that can express our sorrow to the Hastings family for having to endure such a traumatic and tragic loss. We will continue to pray for them and while we cannot bring Zoe back, we hope this outcome will help them heal,” Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson said in a statement. “On behalf of my team who worked on this case, I want to thank the jury for their service. Their sentence ensures that Antonio Cochran will no longer have the opportunity to harm another person again.”

Prosecutrs said in addition to his life sentence, Cochran was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
