Purported cartel gunmen massacred eight people during an attack at a party in the Mexican state of Nuevo León on Saturday night.

State authorities said a group of hooded gunmen stormed a home where dozens of people had gathered to watch a televised soccer match in the Querétaro section of San Nicolás de Los Garza.

Witnesses at the scene said the attackers arrived in several cars, apparently gathered the victims in one of the rooms of the residence, and opened fire, according to Proceso,

Seven people ages ranging from 19 to 57 were reported dead at the scene.

Emergency responders rushed five other victims to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.

Minutes later local news outlets reported that one of the wounded victims died while receiving medical attention.

Officials said authorities would release additional information about the bloody event, which is the first massacre recorded this year in Nuevo León.
