A routine stop led Mexican officials to confiscate enough fentanyl to kill millions as well as almost 1,000 pounds of crystal meth and other drugs that were being smuggled to the border of California.

This week, Mexico’s National Security Commission revealed the seizure of 45.5 kilos of fentanyl that were discovered as part of a synthetic drug shipment in the Mexican town of Ensenada, in the state of Baja California.

The seizure also included over 914 pounds of crystal meth, 87 pounds of cocaine, along with 18 pounds of heroin, Breitbart Texas reported.

Unlike the other synthetic narcotics, fentanyl is a medically utilized opioid that is considered to be 100 times more potent than morphine and is extremely prone to deadly overdoses.

The Oxford Treatment Center revealed that the lethal dose for fentanyl is 2 milligrams.

The 45.5 kilos of fentanyl seized is sufficient to cause millions of possible fatal doses.

The seizure was conducted by federal police who noticed an SUV without plates that had been driving along the highway that connects Ensenada with Lazaro Cardenas. The beach town of Ensenada is located south of Tijuana and its various ports of entry into California.

After stopping the car, officers searched the SUV and found ten bundles, three pieces of luggage, 18 bricks and 18 containers with the various drugs inside. As part of the probe, Mexican authorities confirmed that the SUV was registered in the state of California.
