A former student teacher in Connecticut who allegedly had a sexual relationship with a student told investigators that she was in love with him.

Last week, 22-year-old Tayler Ivy Boncal was charged with sexual assault after reports surfaced that she was engaged in a sexual relationship with an 18-year-old pupil at Conard High School in West Hartford.

Boncal met the teen in December while working as a student teacher. After she finished her student teaching assignment for the fall semester, she remained employed at the school as an assistant track coach.

The teen told detectives that they started texting in December after he asked for her number.

Police said Boncal asked the teen to come to her home on multiple occasions where they had sex, the Hartford Courant reported.

“She stated the victim was kind to her… and stated that she loved the victim and was emotional regarding her feelings,” authorities said.

On Friday, school officials announced that the student teacher was terminated from her coaching position.

“As educators, we are entrusted to protect and educate all students and know there are boundaries that can never be crossed,” Principal Julio Duarte said in a letter to parents. “We will not tolerate behavior that compromises the safety or well-being of our students.”
