An assistant soccer coach at a high school in Illinois is facing a dozen felony charges for the sexual assault of three male students.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Cori Beard was questioned by authorities on Thursday after a parent called a school employee who notified police.

Beard, who has worked as an assistant coach for both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams at Vernon Hills High School since 2013, participated in at least a dozen sexual acts between 2016 and February 2018.

Currently, authorities do not believe that the 12 acts took place on school grounds.

“At least some of the crimes occurred at Beard’s residence,” Vernon Hills Police Chief Patrick Kreis said, noting the boys were younger than 17 years old when at least some of the activities took place.

Beard was interviewed last Thursday and worked with parents and the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center to interview the students.

The woman was charged with 12 counts of sexual assault for two of the students and is in custody at the Lake County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond. She is scheduled to make her next court appearance on March 13th.

Authorities revealed that additional charges involving the third student might be filed.

In a statement issued on Saturday, district officials said the board of education would take action on Beard’s terminated at its next meeting on March 19th.

“The safety and well-being of students and staff is our priority, and Community High School District 128 regrets the pain some individuals may be experiencing as a result of allegations made regarding the conduct of District 128 employee Cori Beard,” the statement said.

“Upon learning of possible criminal conduct involving a student, the administration, working with the police, took measures to assure that Beard would have no further contact with students or staff.”

The district has provided counseling to students and employees.
