A mother from upstate New York has been charged with child endangerment after her nine-month-old child was discovered by strangers crawling by himself in the middle of a busy road.

In a video posted on Facebook, which was viewed over 2.2 million times, the infant is seen crawling on his stomach in the middle of Bleecker Street on Friday night. Several witnesses attended to the baby and called 911.

Towards the end of the footage, a woman ran up to the crowd and shouted: “That’s my baby! Oh my god!”

Once the video caught the attention of police, an investigation was launched. After a few hours, authorities managed to locate 27-year-old Ledrika Ford in Utica.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Utica authorities said Ford told investigators that she and an unidentified family member had no idea how her infant ended up on the street.

“She advised officers that the infant was in the rear of a vehicle that she was in when they left a location on Bleecker Street,” the statement said.

“A short time later, she looked and found that the child was not there. They returned to the area of Pellettieri Avenue and Bleecker Street where they located her child.”

Child services had removed the nine-month-old baby and Ford’s other three children – ages one, two and five following a two-hour visit (pictured above)

Two Utica Police officers and two employees from Oneida County Child Protective Services went to Ford’s residence on Saturday morning, according to the Daily Mail.

Following the two-hour visit, the nine-month-old and Ford’s other three kids – who are between the ages of one and five – were taken away. Ford was heard crying as the vehicle containing her kids left.

The 27-year-old mom, who is not in custody, has been charged with a misdemeanor of child endangerment which could result in up to one year behind bars if she is found guilty. She is scheduled to appear back in court on March 23rd.
