Former Ohio Teacher Laura Lynn Cross pleads guilty after having a baby with a student she adopted

A former Ohio teacher entered a guilty plea to charges related to the fact that she gave birth to her student-turned-foster son’s child.

On Friday, 37-year-old Laura Lynn Cross appeared in court on charges of sexual battery stemming from her three-year relationship with the male teen.

Prosecutors claimed that she and the then-16-year-old reportedly became sexually involved in 2013 while he was in his first year at Buchtel High School, the Akron Beacon-Journal reported.

Their relationship grew more complicated in 2015 after the English teacher quit her job and asked his mother to become his legal guardian.

Cross was arrested earlier this month after police learned she had given birth to the boy’s baby in December 2015

Cross told his mother that she wished to “mentor” him and was awarded partial custody.

Under the court-approved deal, Cross and the teen moved in together to her home in Tallmadge home.

In June 2015, the boy’s mother filed a complaint about the purported affair. No charges were filed until law enforcement officials discovered that Cross gave birth to the teen’s child in December 2015.

“First of all, she’s a teacher,” the teen’s father, who has not been identified, told WEWS-TV. “To get aroused by a child, you have to be a sick individual.”

She was taken into custody last August on sexual battery charges after investigators obtained a recording of the teen telling his father the truth.

“It was a failure of the system,” the teen’s father said. “From the school and definitely from the police.”

Cross is scheduled to be sentenced on May 24th.
