A single punch thrown during an altercation outside of a club in Las Vegas a year ago has landed a prison sentence for the suspect.

James Beach, 28, was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for fatally punching Luis Campos in the head after the two had gotten into a fight as he waited in line to enter the Vanguard Lounge, a hot spot in downtown Las Vegas.

According to authorities, Beach approached Campos, the two began arguing, and Beach ultimately punched the victim knocking him unconscious.

The California man was in Las Vegas for a bachelor party when the altercation unfolded in April 2017. The father of five never recovered consciousness and died at a hospital in Las Vegas four days later.

Beach’s defense lawyers contended that the punch was thrown in self-defense, Fox5 Vegas reported.

A judge did not buy that claim, though. Prosecutors pointed to video surveillance to support the claim that the attack appeared unprovoked.

“His hands are in his pockets,” prosecutor Marc DiGiacomo said of the footage, which showed Luis Campos, “when Beach walks up to him, says something, and when the guy leans in, he throws a punch.”

Beach and a friend initially left the scene and were busted later in the weekend in large part due to anonymous tips. Beach has been charged with open murder.

Beach pleaded guilty at the start of the trial for voluntary manslaughter.
