Six innocent bystanders killed during cartel shootout in Mexican border city of Reynosa

Six innocent bystanders were killed, and another was wounded in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas during a series of intense firefights where rival cells of the Gulf Cartel have engaged in violent confrontations with eachother and Mexican authorities for control of the border city of Reynosa.

The Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office verified that it has launched an investigation into the bystanders’ murders.

Three of the victims were identified as employees of a local manufacturing plant while three others were identified as family members, according to Breitbart Texas.

Authorities said that examinations on the victims’ bodies indicated they did not fire any weapons and were simple bystanders.

Officials said preliminary information indicated the victims were in the Petrolera area when cartel members clashed with Mexican security forces.

Emergency personnel raced to the scene but confirmed that six of the seven victims were dead when they arrived.

On the day of the horrific shooting, rival groups of the Gulf Cartel fought engaged in ten gunbattles throughout Reynosa and in the remote rural areas.

The fighting resulted in a total of eight fatalities.

The fierce clashes between the rival factions of the Gulf Cartel have resulted in 444 killings which included cartel gunmen, military, police, and innocent bystanders.
