Houston Police say Ana Segovia set fire to her vehicle with her three children inside

A Texas mother has been arrested after she reportedly set her vehicle ablaze with three of her children inside.

“We’re going to see Jesus,” the woman allegedly told her kids, according to Houston Police Department Lieutenant Larry Crowson. The mother revved the engine of her parked car until it caught fire. Authorities said the three children were 9-, 11, and 13-years-old.

The incident took place in the parking lot of a self-service car wash.

Witnesses tried to intervene and the mother, who has been identified as Ana Segovia, 31, bolted from the scene with her three children.

Police told ABC13 that Segovia left her two older children behind in southwest Houston and reportedly dragged her 9-year-old toward a lake.

A Precinct 7 deputy constable caught the woman, who struggled with the deputy before she was eventually restrained and arrested.

Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel indicated in court documents that Segovia has been charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault of a Family Member. The woman is reportedly a U.S. citizen who was born in El Salvador. She has no criminal record.

Segovia is set to appear for a hearing before 185th District Court Judge Susan Brown on Tuesday. No bond has been established at this time.

Authorities placed custody of the children in the care of a family member.

The woman may face additional charges related to her intentional effort to ignite the vehicle. Fox26 reports that Houston Fire Department arson investigators launched an investigation on Monday.
