Georgia doctor Marian Antoinette Patterson charged with making terroristic threats to employees

Authorities in Georgia arrested a doctor for making terroristic threats after she allegedly threatened to “slit the throats” of her employees.

According to WCTV, Valdosta family physician, Marian Antoinette Patterson is accused of shouting a slew of threats to her employees following a disturbance on February 21st.

Patterson has been charged with three counts of terroristic threats and false imprisonment.

She surrendered to police last week and was released after posting bail.

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said Patterson threatened to “slit the throats” of her employees and went as far as telling one worker she would “cut her head off and roll it down the hallway,” in front of the woman’s children.

Law enforcement officials added that the doctor allegedly clutched at least one employee before proceeding to throw several items including a reflex hammer, prescription bottles, a large potted plant, and a catalog.

Additionally, cops said Patterson also hurled water on two employees.

Sheriff Ashley Paulk called Patterson’s situation “unfortunate,” and blamed her actions on issues occurring in her personal life.

“It’s unfortunate, there are some factors in her life that brought about some emotional problems I feel like,” Paulk told WALB. “I hope this is something she can put behind her, because she has a lot of patients, a lot of people that trust her as their doctor, and it’s just one of those things that I hope she can work through.”

As a result, Patterson had her license to practice temporarily suspended in March.

Georgia’s Composite Medical Board cited the Feb. 21 incident as a major factor when handing out the suspension order and reportedly said it had also received reports that Patterson had been under the influence at the office on several occasions.
