Shooting in Osceola County Florida could be connected to a drug cartel

Authorities with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office in Florida have apprehended two men who reportedly shot a man at his residence in Kissimmee, which is the same location where the victim sold a man 4 kilos of cocaine only six hours before the incident.

Law enforcement officials now suspect the shooting could be linked to a significant international drug trafficking organization.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence in Kissimmee on Monday, where they discovered Carlos Garcia, who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, WFTV reported.

Detectives determined that Jorge Salgado and Manuel Balan went to Garcia’s home, kicked in the front door and demanded cocaine and money, before shooting him.

Garcia told police that one of the suspects took one of his sons, held the firearm to his head, and threatened to shoot.

The victim’s wife gave the men $18,000.

Investigators acquired surveillance footage of the home, where they observed Garcia give 46-year-old Erick Bernal-Rodriguez a case of avocados with 4 kilos of cocaine inside.

Garcia confessed to police he picked up 5 kilos of cocaine on a stop in Houston. He said he was worried because the individuals in Texas were “serious people” and the suspects warned, “This is for the Gulf Cartel. You better get their stuff.”

During a separate search warrant at an apartment in Kissimmee, where Bernal-Rodriguez resides, police discovered four packages wrapped in black duct tape behind the dryer in the laundry room.

Bernal-Rodriguez is facing charges of drug trafficking and possessing drug paraphernalia. He is in custody on $500,000 bond.
