FBI raids target residence of Adelanto Mayor Rich Kerr

FBI agents conducted raids on the residence of a California mayor and his city’s town hall as a part of a large-scale probe into allegations of corruptions.

Agents executed search warrants on the residence of Adelanto Mayor Rich Kerr and City Hall on Tuesday as a part of a federal investigation into the city’s role in the burgeoning marijuana industry, according to the San Bernardino Sun. As a part of the targeted busts, agents also executed a search warrant at a local marijuana dispensary named the Jet Room.

While some media outlets reported that Kerr was taken from his home in handcuffs after the bust, but officials told the ABC7 that the mayor had not been taken into custody.

Since Kerr has assumed office in 2015, the city has strived to improve the economy by enticing the marijuana industry, but federal officials also became involved in 2017 when charges were filed against the pro tem mayor who was accused of taking bribes to expedite specific steps for businesses.

The city has a rich history of purported corruption, but an FBI spokeswoman indicated that the agency would not provide further information regarding the nature of Tuesday’s search warrants.

Michael Stevens, the city’s public information officer, published a statement saying that the city is “unaware of the nature of the FBI’s investigation,” but plans to cooperate with the FBI as they continue.
